This course is designed for teams of prosecutors and forensic interviewers. Prosecutors will be required to conduct a direct examination of forensic interviewers, and then conduct a re-direct examination after their forensic interviewers have been cross-examined. The prosecutors, working with forensic interviewers, must also respond to the critiques of their forensic interviews from a defense expert.

This one-day course will cover trial advocacy issues in the prosecution of abusive head trauma criminal cases. The course will focus on all aspects of presenting the case to a judge or a jury from pre-trial motions to voir dire through closing arguments. The course will also provide prosecutors with practical tips and techniques for cross-examining the defense witnesses in these types of cases. Participants will be shown a demonstration incorporating the presentation of digital evidence into the trial.

Extended Forensic Evaluation Training

The National Children's Advocacy Center's Extended Forensic Evaluation Training was designed and provides a model for a multi-session forensic interview of these children who are too young, too frightened, or unable to provide clear information in a single interview.  Extended Forensic Evaluation provides rapport building and forensically defensible questioning over a longer period of time than a single session forensic interview.

September 22 - 24, 2010 / Columbia, SC

This two and a half day multidisciplinary training (prosecutors, police officers, forensic interviewers, child protection workers or any child abuse prevention professional involved in the MDT investigation) will provide instruction on incorporating technology into the investigation of child abuse and child sexual exploitation. In today’s fast-paced society, technology presents challenges to MDT’s. This training will explore how technology can be used as an asset in child abuse and child sexual exploitation investigation. Additionally, the course will focus on how to integrate technology into the forensic interview and in corroborating the outcry of a child that has been abused. Some of the topics that will be covered include: search and seizure; technology essentials; technology in the forensic interview, the role of social networking sites; and emerging issues in technology.

SafetyNet addresses multiple areas within the investigation and prosecution of technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation, including online luring and soliciting, child pornography, forensic examination of the computer, pro-active and reactive investigation strategies, search and seizure issue, compliant victim scenarios and meeting untrue defenses. All applicants must be affiliated with an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) to be considered.
